ArtÓ X William Thomas - The Illustrated Truth is a conceptual art series that explores the fragile intersection between fame, identity, and mortality in the modern age. Each piece re-imagines an iconic cultural figure through the visual language of media, memory, and myth, layering portraiture with distressed textures, graffiti interventions, and re-contextualised headlines. The result is a collision between how these figures were seen, how they were sold, and how they are ultimately remembered.
'Rainbows Don’t Last Forever' is a tribute to Judy Garland, the actress who immortalised Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz and gave the world one of cinema’s most enduring songs, “Over the Rainbow.” The piece draws on the deep emotional tension that defined Garland’s public image: innocence and sorrow, wonder and fragility, colour and collapse. Through the visual language of distressed print, fractured glamour, and defiant text, the work reflects both the magic she represented and the personal cost that so often sat behind the image.
